Chinese Icebreaker “Xue Long 2” Makes Historic Visit to Thailand
China’s state-of-the-art polar research icebreaker Xue Long 2 docked at Chuk Samet Pier, Sattahip, marking its first official visit to Thailand. The event honors HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s 70th birthday and the 50th anniversary of Thai–Chinese diplomatic ties. The vessel was also opened for public visits (May 19–23, 2025) and hosted exhibitions, cultural exchanges, and a polar science conference at Chulalongkorn University. Princess Sirindhorn was scheduled to tour the ship on May 20. The visit highlights Thailand’s growing role in international polar research and public engagement on climate change and marine science.
