KOPRI's Dr. Ji Hee Kim Elected Vice-Chair of the Committee for Environmental Protection (CEP)

On July 1, Dr. Ji Hee Kim, a principal research scientist at KOPRI, was elected Vice-Chair of the Committee for Environmental Protection (CEP) during the annual ATCM/CEP meeting in Milan. With extensive experience in Antarctic environmental research, Dr. Kim has led key projects, such as managing the Antarctic Specially Protected Area (ASPA 171) near the Antarctic King Sejong Station and eradicating invasive species on King George Island. She also co-authored a management plan for an Antarctic Specially Protected Area on Inexpressible Island, which was submitted in collaboration with China and Italy.

As Vice-Chair, Dr. Kim will enhance management plans for Antarctic Specially Protected Areas (ASPAs) and will lead working groups to address the impacts of climate change. Her two-year term may be extended for another term. The CEP, established in 1998, advises on environmental protection in Antarctica, covering topics such as pollution prevention and wildlife conservation.
