Malaysia Strengthens International Polar Research Partnerships through New and Renewed MoUs

To enhance international cooperation in polar research, Malaysia has also pursued the signing of new and renewal of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with various research institutions and universities. In 2024/2025, Malaysia signed three MoUs. These understandings aim to foster collaborative research projects, joint field expeditions, knowledge exchanges and capacity-building initiatives.

i.Renewal of MoU for 5 years (2024-2029) with British Antarctic Survey.
YPASM and BAS have renewed MoU for another five years, covering the period from 2024 to 2029. The original MoU was first signed in 2015, marking a long-standing partnership in advancing polar research and scientific collaboration between Malaysia and United Kingdom.

ii.New MoU for 5 years (2025-2030) with Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK).
YPASM and TÜBİTAK signed a new five-year MoU in 2025, marking a new chapter of collaboration in polar research, scientific exchange, and capacity building between Malaysia and Türkiye.

iii.New MoU for 5 years (2025-2030) with the Republican Polar Research Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
YPASM and the Republican Polar Research Center of Belarus have signed a new five-year MoU, marking a significant step towards fostering international collaboration in Antarctic research, capacity building, and the exchange of scientific knowledge and expertise between the two countries.
